Finca Tecolote

ABOUT US
Welcome…
to Finca Tecolote
Greetings Friends...
Our home is your home. Mi Casa es su Casa. This Spanish saying is an invitation to you. We want to share our home and our experience of the desert with you.
Our home is uniquely situated for you to watch the sunrise on the back porch
and the sunset on the front porch. Pour yourself a drink and gaze at the stars sitting in front of the fire pit. Immerse yourself in water. Use the pool or the spa because the desert water is energizing. Marvel at the Joshua trees that are 50 to 500 years old. We love it here because it is easy to find relaxation and stillness. We want to share this space with you.
The name of our home is “Finca Tecolote.” We believe it named itself. While the previous owner and I were standing on the front porch we were both were called to
look at massive shadows appear in the sky. It was a great horned owl and a hawk
simultaneously landing on the same Joshua tree. Both of us were in awe. The previous owner stated he had never witnessed such a “coincidence” before. But, we both knew this was a message from the spirit world. With the prophecy complete we became the new caretakers of the legacy of this house. Hence, the name Finca Tecolote. Tecolote means Owl in Spanish. Finca means “ranch” because the previous name was Mauller Ranch. In English, it means Owl Ranch. To add to the mystery of this sacred space. Ingrid has always had a fascination with owls. A few
years prior, Ingrid made an impulse purchase while visiting a tiny village in Guatemala. She bought three very large owls made of clay. Getting these owls to the United States in one piece was going to require a huge streak of good luck. She managed to pack them in several suitcases and somehow all three of them arrived in perfect condition. You will be able to see these well-traveled owls in the house. They found their true home. We have since learned there are three great horned owls that live nearby-male, female, and offspring. If you listen to the early morning sounds of the desert you may be lucky enough to hear the resident owls. As soon as the sunsets you may even be lucky enough to see one of the owls in the neighboring trees.
